چکیده

We give a bird’s-eye view of the plastic deformation of crystals aimed at the statistical physics community, and a broad introduction into the statistical theories of forced rigid systems aimed at the plasticity community. Memory effects in magnets, spin glasses, charge density waves, and dilute colloidal suspensions are discussed in relation to the onset of plastic yielding in crystals. Dislocation avalanches and complex dislocation tangles are discussed via a brief introduction to the renormalization group and scaling. Analogies to emergent scale invariance in fracture, jamming, coarsening, and a variety of depinning transitions are explored. Dislocation dynamics in crystals challenges nonequilibrium statistical physics. Statistical physics provides both cautionary tales of subtle memory effects in nonequilibrium systems, and systematic tools designed to address complex scale-invariant behavior on multiple length and time scales. 1 ar X iv :1 60 9. 05 83 8v 1 [ co nd -m at .m tr lsc i] 1 9 Se p 20 16

External and intrinsic anchoring in nematic liquid crystals: a Monte Carlo study.

We present a Monte Carlo study of external surface anchoring in nematic cells with partially disordered solid substrates, as well as of intrinsic anchoring at free nematic interfaces. The simulations are based on the simple hexagonal lattice model with a spatially anisotropic intermolecular potential. We estimate the corresponding extrapolation length b by imposing an elastic deformation in a h...

Atomistic mechanisms of intermittent plasticity in metals: dislocation avalanches and defect cluster pinning.

Intermittent plastic deformation in crystals with power-law behaviors has been reported in previous experimental studies. The power-law behavior is reminiscent of self-organized criticality, and mesoscopic models have been proposed that describe this behavior in crystals. In this paper, we show that intermittent plasticity in metals under tensile deformation can be observed in molecular dynamic...

Modeling mechanochromatic lamellar gels.

Consisting of alternating swelling and nonswelling polymeric layers (SLs and NLs), lamellar gels are one-dimensional photonic crystals with mechanically tunable optical properties. The lamellar structure induces a constraint between the SLs and the NLs, resulting in a highly anisotropic swelling behavior that is coupled with deformation. The coupling gives rise to the mechanochromatic effect, i...

Competition of elasticity and flexoelectricity for bistable alignment of nematic liquid crystals on patterned substrates.

We show that patterned surfaces can promote bistable configurations of nematics for reasons other than the symmetry of the surface. Numerical and analytical calculations reveal that a nematic liquid crystal in contact with a striped surface is subject to the competing aligning influences of elastic anisotropy, differing energy cost of various types of deformation, and flexoelectricity, curvatur...

شواهد سنگ‌نگاری دگرشکلی دمای بالا در حاشیه‌ی توده‌ی گرانیتوئیدی کیکی، ایران مرکزی

South Kiki granitoid intrusion is located north of Semnan Province, about 5 km south of the village of Kiki. This pluton emplaced wholly within the Jurassic sandstones with typical contact metamorphic aureole around their periphery. The plutonic rocks suffered high-temperature deformation with well-developed S-C fabrics along shear zones marginal to the intrusion. The pluton was subjected to...
